The world's leading companies Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Alibaba or Huawei, coming from the US and China, alone invest billions in Artificial Intelligence every year. The total volume of Chinese (private and government) investments in AI and robotics is estimated to be US$ 300 billion.
Due to other data privacy regulations, the US and China can build upon another quantitative advantage: unlike in Germany and other European countries, they have access to a vast amount of personal customer data that can be used for training in artificial intelligence.
Other European countries including Germany play a subordinate role in the investment game. By 2025, the German government wants to support this future technology with € 3 billion (source: Handelsblatt, November 13, 2018). The industry, research & development and federal states should invest at least the same amount on top of that. However, this amount seems small compared to investments made by major players in the US and China each year to maintain their leading global positions in AI.
