Google remains the most important traffic source; at least among desktop traffic. This was the focus of a recent analyse conducted by the strategy consulting firm LSP Digital. According to the analysis, the shares of the search engine traffic for the largest German news websites are between 11 percent (Bild.de) and 37 percent (Focus.de). The social media share, contrastingly, lies between six percent (Spiegel.de) and 14 percent (Focus.de). Overall, Google and Facebook are the leaders as the traffic source for search engine- (97 percent) and social media traffic (96 percent), respectively. Other studies, by for example the New York based analytics firm Parse.ly, have found social networks to be the most important traffic source for media websites.
