Fintech companies are technology driven firms offering digital financial services. These services include, among others, technologies relating to mobile payment, crowdfunding or social trading.
There are 139 such firms with headquarters in Germany, according to a study. The epicenter of the local fintech field is Berlin, with 49 companies.
Other important locations include Munich (18 companies), Hamburg (16 companies) and Frankfurt (11 companies).
Most of them (59 percent) are focused on the consumer market: for 29 percent business clients are the most important target group.
